Help Protect Tibet’s Endangered Cultural Inheritance

Dharma VolunteersVolunteers will be working to save the endangered culture of Tibet and promote literacy. Volunteers may also take classes at the Tibetan Nyingma Institute, Berkeley.

The Nyingma Association of Mandala Organizations (NAMO)Volunteer Program offers meals and shared rooms in a community setting, located in downtown Berkeley, California. Free classes on meditation, a gentle form of Tibetan yoga called Kum Nye, Tibetan language, and Buddhism are available. Volunteers work 5.5 days a week and make a minimum commitment of 6 months. You need not be Buddhist, so long as you are open to working and living in a Buddhist community. All levels of experience are welcome.

Volunteers are matched with one of the following NAMO organizations, based on the best fit between volunteer skill/experience and organizational needs. In some cases you may work for more than one organization:

-Tibetan Aid Project
-Mangalam Research Center for Buddhist Languages
-Dharma College
-Guna Foundation
-Nyingma Trust

A work-study program, the Mandala Training Program, is available for those interested in exploring a more long-term commitment.

You will live in an established Buddhist community, spend about 30-35 hours a week doing work that supports the activity of the Nyingma Mandala of Organizations. You will take three classes a week, open to MTP students only. There is a daily morning meditation for all participants, Saturday workshops about once a month, and two short retreats at the beginning and end of the program. Options for making a more long-term commitment at the end of six-months are possible.

This is a six month program with nominal tuition. The next session starts in January 2017.

Cost
Tuition of $200 a month, payable at the start of the program.
Room and board are provided as part of the program.
