Volunteering in Peru – 3 Amazing Opportunities

Peru is a South American country where you will find attractions such as amazing archaeological sites from pre-Columbian cultures such as the Inca Empire. The country is also home to towns with colonial architecture, a wide range of animal species and huge mountains to climb. It is heaven for all sorts of travelers, especially those interested in ecological tourism.

Aside from providing exceptional opportunities for exploring there are many volunteer opportunities being offered all over the country. I found a few interesting ones, check them out:

Peru Vivential – Dogshelter in Trujillo

Peru Vivential is a non-profit organization based on social assistance for improving health, social work, animal care and education in Peru. The dog shelter project as established in 2010 works with abandoned, abused and injured dogs around the beachfront city of Trujillo. Volunteers work directly with the dogs at the rescue center, preparing their food, walking, socializing and training the dogs.

They ask for a commitment of around three months and offer training as well as flexible schedules. There is also a small fee of $250 per month that covers accommodation and activities such as Spanish classes, surf lessons, salsa lessons , sand boarding, parties and rides.

SKIP (Supporting Kids in Peru) – Psychology Assistant Wanted

SKIP is a charity working with disadvantaged families in an impoverished district of the city of Trujillo, Peru. They have educational, economic, emotional and social development programs, focusing on children and family.

The Psychology Program works in close collaboration with the Social Work Program to increase the social and emotional well-being of local families. Directors and SKIP are searching or a psychology assistant to work with the psychology coordinator to help out with one or two sessions per week. Volunteers with high levels of knowledge in Spanish are preferred. Volunteers are asked for a $500 monthly fee to cover their accommodation and a contribution to the organization.

Teaching English to Children in the Peruvian Andes with Sharing Dreams Peru

Sharing Dreams Peru focuses on offering education to kids from vulnerable families living in the Peruvian Andes. Right now they are looking for volunteers that would like to come to the region and become an English teacher. You don’t need any formal training in teaching, just the desire to be helpful, but it would be good if you know the basics of Spanish to make your experience better.

They ask doe $290 monthly to be able to pay for your accommodation and three meals daily.
