Krochet Kids – A Social Minded Brand

We have recently shared the story of Krochet Kids on Ecoripples, our sister site which features eco-friendly and socially responsible products.  It was the story of Krochet Kids that spawned the idea of creating the True Travellers Market featuring socially responsible companies.  I thought that the True Travellers community would be a great place to share stories of companies that are socially minded.

Krochet Kids is a social capitalism brand. They create apparel and crochet hats.  However, as a non-profit, they are able to focus more resources and financial investment into their program initiatives and activities.  These activities are focused on empowering the women they work with throughout their supply chain in Northern Uganda and Peru.  Krochet Kids provides these women with the assets, skills, and knowledge they need to lift themselves and their families out of poverty. Krochet Kids provides education so that they can develop beyond the need for outside aid.  These are very admirable assets to have as the foundation of a company.

Check out this video which provides a great overview of their brand:

I really like the concept of the creator of the apparel actually signing the tag of the product they made.  This small act really drives home the connection of a product to the end user.  This connection is often lost in shopping today.  Simply signing the tag makes you realize, or at least think about the person on the other end of the product.

Here are a few examples of products from Krochet Kids:

So, go on and check out their products.  They have a lot of great stuff and you should support them.  You can buy their products directly from the Krochet Kids website or from our market.

We are on the look out for more socially minded brands.  It doesn’t matter how big or small these brands are, if they are doing something that is unique and socially responsible, we want to support them.  Let us know in the in comments.
