We provide resources to help you truly travel.

True traveling is getting off the tourist track and integrating with the local community. It is about exploring and experiencing culture away from the gift shops and the tourist traps. It is about leaving the all inclusive resorts and going beyond simply meeting the locals. To truly travel you need to immerse yourself with the locals and their culture. The trick is finding opportunities that will enable you to do this.

The aim of this site is to help you truly travel. We share interesting travel stories and adventures of people truly traveling. We also provide a variety of resources to help you truly travel.

Your International Volunteer Travel, Meaningful Travel and Gap-year Resource

One of the ways to truly travel is through volunteering. There are a number of fantastic volunteer opportunities that do not cost anything other than the cost of you being there. These organizations are run locally and can be a bit tricky to find, but they are worth it once you do.

We aim to help connect you with free or low fee international volunteer programs and provide you with resources to make the trip happen. These resource include fundraising sites like Volunteer Forever and educational sites like The Ethical Volunteer.

Please note, if you are interested in any of the organizations on our site, please contact the organization directly. We do not coordinate your volunteer experience. We connect you to the organization. It is then up to you to do the due diligence and make sure the organization and opportunity is for you.

If you have international volunteer opportunities to share or are interested in finding an opportunity, please let us know. Maybe we can help you out.

I hope that you find the site useful.

Safe and happy travels,
Andrew Wahba

  6. Hii i’m emna from Tunisia I want to join you with my husband he is an Actor and theater professor for children And Iam a child teacher ..and child animator
We want to volunteer and we wish to join you💪
We want to volunteer and we wish to join you
I want to volunteer because it continuously teaches me something new about people, about cooperation, about compassion, and about myself. In helping others, I am reminded that we are all in this together and we need to remember to support each other. Life has so much to offer if we remember look beyond ourselves…
I want to not just see the world, but make a difference in it…

i would realy want to participate in any voluntary work especially with kids …I love what I get to do for a living! I have been working with children for the majority of my life, beginning with babysitting and moving through to becoming a certified Early Childhood Educator…
There’s nothing better, in my opinion, than being able to “play” all day .
we would like to volunteer somewhere we could teach :english/frensh/arabic/théâtre. .even build community buildings like libraries and schools…
We want volunteer because we find something incredibly satisfying about acting in a way that is consistent with our principles. Being able to say we changed something in the world, in the lives of others, gives meaning to our
being here beyond simply looking after myself. For me, it changes my life from being purely self-centered to being something with meaning for others, too…it continuously teaches me something new about people, about cooperation, about compassion, and about myself. In helping others, I am reminded that we are all in this together and we need to remember to support each other. Life has so much to offer if we remember look beyond ourselves.”
I like volunteer because I want to not just see the world, but make a difference in it.”
volunteer because: 1) I truly like helping people. 2) I feel called to volunteer and share my talents and time with others. 3) I enjoy meeting different people from different backgrounds and cultures while volunteering. 4) I like having my comfort zone stretched and expanded. 5) It’s a lot of fun!i really want volunteer because I can’t handle seeing any animal suffering as if no one cares and because it makes me feel aliv. I feel it is part of being a human being. I think we are designed to help one another. Help comes in many forms, and I believe that volunteering is one way to accomplish what we are supposed to accomplish in this lifetime. Bottom line, it just feels good inside to give unconditionally.
volunteer not so much to help others, but to gain some perspective about my own life. But in the end, I suppose I accomplish both…

  13. Hi Everyone.

I am Kelvin Bishop Fallah, Executive Director Volunteers For Change Liberia.

I want to introduce our organization and to use this platform to called on people with the passion to help make the world a better place for all children, youth, Women, Mentally ill people, youth on drug, Ebola orphan to join us here in Liberia on a free voluntary program.

Volunteers for change (VFC) was conceptualized in 2012 and only officially registered in 2014. A group of Liberians who are very passionate about social change in Liberia decided that it was time to organize themselves into a movement that will use volunteerism as a means of effecting social change. The overall premise is that if young people are able to come together and undertake projects in their communities and their country at large, by volunteering, there can be no louder way to advocate for change than by doing change. The time is gone when young people should not only be talking; instead, the time is now for young people to be pointing to projects they have volunteer on in their various communities. By volunteering in your community, you are creating social capital and ownership and sending an unequivocal message that you are serious about real change.

Our advocacy of change is not to talk but instead to act. It is time to be the change we want by volunteering in our communities for our people and country because our reason for effecting change is to rebuild our beloved country, We believe that we can start with ourselves. By changing our attitude and the way we approach things, we can be the real change we want. Additionally, when we give our time and energy to working on projects in our communities, even without compensation, we send a loud and stronger message about change.

At VFC, We believe that the spirit and ideals of volunteering for causes and projects are key components of social change in any society. We believe that it is time to give back to our community in whatever way we can. It doesn’t always have to be CASH; it can be few hours a day or one Saturday a month to work on something in the community.

Tinkuy offers volunteer opportunities to professionals, trades people, retired individuals – couples, and students of all nationalities who want to share their knowledge and special skills with the people of Huancayo. Tinkuy is especially interested in providing English-language training, which has the potential to help open doors for these children to the global community. The most valuable asset that we have from our volunteers is their time. The volunteers bring a new world and provide a safe and positive experience for the children who often come from broken homes. Ultimately, we hope that it will give the children the desire to stay in school and a better outlook on life. The volunteers try to bridge the gap with education and new experiences for those children who cannot afford all of the basics. Volunteers are the heart of the program and without their continued support, Tinkuy Peru would cease to exist, and the future of our children would not be nearly as promising. This Volunteer program in Peru is an unforgettable and life changing experience, and many of our volunteers enjoy themselves so much that they end up coming back to Huancayo multiple times. Volunteering in Peru with Tinkuy will be an unforgettable experience.

Instead of celebrating my birthday as usual activity of mine..I’m currently working in government agency which promotes gender equality and women empowerment. I do have experience in nursing home before and tutorial skills with elementary kids. Hope i can do that on my birthday even 2 weeks of charity work, just giving back all the blessings i received. Thank you!

I am Debraliz Sabelo Gabol, a social work degree holder and has been a service-focused government employee, community development worker , innovative youth leader, photographer, proud advocate and native from the tribe of Kalanguyas in Benguet, Philippines . I am also pursuing M.A. in Community Development which I aim to be a well-trained and effective student where I can put my learning into appropriate actions with a strong commitment in accomplishing such.

I have been a social worker for two years I have the greatest job in the
world. I am never been bored with my job . I’ve experienced travelling to different local and international communities because of my advocacies in Cultural Exchange and learning the purpose of of life ,witnessed a child turning into young men and young women. I have met children that I hope to be like when I grow up. I’ve made a career out of helping kids. Being a social worker is like a teacher. Probably because during this time of year I’m no longer in “helping kids” mode. I wanted to teach to cultivate joy. I wanted to make school feel like less of a prison. Moreover, you will find me to be understanding, dedicated, and personable aside from the fact that I am outgoing and have good interpersonal skills. I thoroughly enjoy meeting new people and working in a fast paced environment.

Moreover, travelling to different places complemented by my self-initiated has been also one of my hobbies. It really fulfills me to capture photos of people complemented with their own stories in it.

I also have a Master in Teaching and years of teaching experience. I would love to volunteer in Africa, but can’t seem to find any information on what programs are trusted and available. Any help would be appreciated. I am located in the Northwestern United States.

    • Hi Greggka,
Mweva is a not for profit organisation, we are based in Jinja – Uganda, East Africa. We work with the disadvantaged and the vulnerable communities in rural areas. We provide free IT, Business and Entrepreneurship training skills to youths and adults.
We are constantly in need of trainers/teachers in IT, Business or Entrepreneurship. If this fits into the area you are looking to volunteer, we would be delighted to work with us.
There are no costs, fees or charges to work with us, its absolutely free. Uganda is a very beautiful country, the people are warm, friendly and you will have time to visit a lot of tourist attractions.

You can email us on: mcitedi@gmail.com or admin@mweva.org. You can visit our website for more information http://www.mweva.org.
