Foot 2 Afrika was set up by local Tanzanian volunteers who originally volunteered themselves with an international ‘volunteering abroad’ agency. They disagree with the profit-orientated nature of these types of businesses and decided to set this up as an opportunity for volunteers to come and volunteer for free whilst giving back to the local community. They take independent volunteers from all over the world to work at the projects that they run, or have connections with.
They run a number of different projects. At present there are 3 main projects that they are helping, but this can change and evolve over time. These projects are at an orphanage, a women's centre and a school, though the orphanage is the focus of their help and funding at present. Volunteers are involved in a number of tasks from teaching and running activities to building, painting, creating websites, etc. As they finance some of the projects, their help involves not only hands on work at the project, but fundraising and managing projects. Volunteers are placed according to their skills and length of time at a project.
They also have links with several other projects in town that they have supported in the past but where they are not directly involved with the management. They are happy to direct people to these projects and offer any advice etc that they can on these projects. They place up to 20 people at a time, but the nature of the work can also vary, depending on their progress at a project at a particular time, so contact them directly for more information on what they require for the time you are interested in coming. Please see the website for futher infomation about our organisation.
