Middle
East Fellowship is launching its Damascus Summer Encounter, a one- or two-month
service and learning program in Damascus, Syria, this summer.
Participants will volunteer with local humanitarian organizations, including
schools, universities, orphanages and refugee relief programs and will meet
with local community and religious leaders to learn more about current Syrian
politics and culture.
Participants will also study Arabic for twelve hours each week at the
renowned Berlitz School. Each session will include a homestay with Syrian
families.
Included are weekend excursions to Palmyra, Aleppo and other cities and sites of historical and cultural significance.
Only $1,680, the cost includes private accommodations in western style
hotels, all meals, ground transportation, weekend excursions, Berlitz Arabic
language course, translators and local guides.
There are two sessions: June 19 - July 17 and July 17 - August 14. Participants may join for one or two months.
The purpose of the Damascus Summer Encounter is to create opportunities
for friendship and partnership between the people of the Middle East and
the rest of the world. The program will allow participants to build relationships
with the Christian and Islamic communities in Syria, to serve the local community
through vital service projects and to interact with the people of Syria and
learn about their history and culture.
