Volunteer at our Nepalese primary school bring 10 second hand books for the children and pay just £ 50 a week.
(Please note we have other placements as well in orphanages, environmental & others, please ask for details.)
Description of duties at placement- You will be helping the teachers in a small school in one of the districts of Lalipur in the Kathmandu valley. It’s a small school that has less than 50 children in with the eldest being 10 years old. You will work in small groups of no more than 10 young children and help them with their English.
Because the school is so small you will get the opportunity to mix with the students and families and experience how communities exist here. This placement gives you plenty of time to explore the Kathmandu valley and the surrounding area
Please note compared to Western schools you will be working with scarce resources and improvisation is a key.
Placement Location- The school is situated in the Lalipur district of the Kathmandu valley, where you will get the chance to explore the three districts of the valley. Within easy reach of all three you will get the chance to see world famous temples and monasteries, experience the busy shopping streets of Kathmandu or escape to the edge of the valley to view the Himalayan mountains.
Accommodation- Will be provided by the local families near to the school, each one carefully selected so at least one member of the family speaks good English in order that you can communicate effectively. Also you will find that the local families in the home stay programme have been chosen because they also have good standing in the community and can introduce you to the traditional Nepalese life.
