Nka Foundation’s Pilot Design-Build Program in Vernacular African Architecture at Sang Arts Village in Ghana was a Success- the Second Edition, TH!NK: Art+Architecture runs from 2012- 2014. The project provides you with the opportunity to volunteer in Africa for free.

In the transnational project, the empowering question is: How do you engage people who are culturally different? How do you enable sustainable rural community development? One way to begin is to see the people as a people to be known. Nka Foundation’s art village project in the sub-Sahara creates the relational spaces to these ends. We seek to position the arts village as an open door for building bridges across cultures and disciplines.

SIKKIM, INDIA – Visit Us & Help Our New School Look Beautiful – Free – (End Nov, Dec, Early Jan)

Sunrise Academy is closed for the winter as per the school terms however we are hoping to make our newly built school look brighter and nicer for the children’s return in January. Can you help? The visitor/s to our very remote and beautiful himalayan village can undertake activities such as painting, oiling our new furniture, maybe some wood work and anything else that they or the Principal comes up with. There are also small activities you can do around the region, all nature filled and beautiful!

Whether you want to visit for 1 week or more you will undertake a minimum of 4 hours of work each day and enjoy living with a local family and understanding more about the Nepalese culture and nature…. (although in India, the area of Begha is on the border of Nepal and everything speaks, thinks and acts Nepalese :) )

Normally we accept visitors for helping the children learn so if you apply please understand the information provided to you is for the teaching side of the school… but there is still relevant information for you as well.

If you would like to visit us, please visit www.sunriseacademysikkim.com/visiting-volunteering-sikkim and all the information is available, and Apply through this site.

The cost for your visit is only to cover food and housing, which amounts to Rs 250 per week. It is up to you whether you would like to contribute towards painting etc..as every rupee helps us complete the further projects we have to make this a fully functional school providing education to those who live too far away from any school to obtain an education.

Hope to hear from you, big love from the Sunrise Academy.
