The Development Gap is a project that hopes to create volunteer tourism opportunities for people to come to Jamaica’s Manchester area (initially) and take part in fulfilling the goals of the Manchester Parish Development Committee’s sustainable development plan. By involving more than just the locals and getting outside help, we can speed our progress toward developed status.
Volunteers can take part in helping to counter the effects of deforestation through tree-planting and beautification projects, afterschool programmes, activities and groups for senior citizens of the parish, helping a local school to create a mural, sharing knowledge of how to run a small business, even accounting advice. The hope is that no matter what our volunteers’ area of expertise, we can find something for them to do during their stay!
