La Tortuga Feliz – Costa Rica

I recently finished volunteering for 3 months with a non profit protecting sea turtles in costa rica and I really want to spread the word. Working with La Tortuga Feliz was definitely one of the most rewarding experience of my life. My daily activities included beach patrolling and hatchery work. Living conditions were basic as expected, however, the amazing food was a welcome surprise. The rewards not only consisted of the opportunity to bond with a diverse group of people but also to actively participate in an organisation that truly helps both the marine wildlife and the local community. If anyone is interested in CHEAP voluntary work in central/south America, I couldn’t recommend LTF more.

Wildlife Rescue Center in Moin Costa Rica

Hello,
We area a wildlife rescue center in Moin. Follow us on twitter @CRWSvanessa and http://www.facebook.com/costaricawildlifesanctuary?ref=hl and GET DISCOUNTS.

Much of the work that takes place at the Rescue Center is in the Nursery, hospital and cages, where recently-received animals need immediate attention and special diets and medicines. Baby monkeys and sloths depressed by their separation from their mother must be cuddled and fed by hand. This is what we call babysitting times.

In addition to the regular daily feeding and care of the animals, usually has special on-going activities in which volunteers can participate. These activities include:

- Construction of cages or extra buildings;
- Gathering of wild foods for the animals;
- Research into the wild diets of the animals;
- Giving tours and creating educational exhibits;
- Participating in additional environmental education activities and community projects;
- Volunteers also make cage and enclosure improvements or “enrichments” by adding toys, perches and other stimuli that help the animal in their rehabilitation process.

Volunteer building earthships/farming at Sanctuary Farm, Costa Rica

Earthship – Shelter built from Recycled Materials!

We are looking for volunteers for our art collective and organic farm near Orosi, 25mins from Cartago, where we are constructing earthships which are buildings made from recycled materials, as well as other structures such as tipis and yurts. We would like creative, self-motivated volunteers to join us, and help build or farm. Our ‘building season’ starts in December, at the end of the rainy season when it is more practical to get materials, people and supplies to the farm and work on a range of projects outdoors.

The project is in the early stages so conditions are basic, but our ultimate goal is to create a bartering community along the lines of Burning Man’s “Black Rock City”. The project has been growing little by little over the last few years. Frank, the owner and founder of this project is building his house on the farm while at the same time helping other volunteers on their projects.
