Web Designer for Educational Organization in Myanmar and Thailand

Educasia is a not-for-profit organisation providing low-cost, copyright-free educational materials and teacher support services to adult education programmes in Asia, with a focus on Thailand and Myanmar. Educasia’s context-specific, learner-centred materials cover various subject areas including English language, social science and community management. Educasia also provides pre-service and in-service teacher training and curriculum support, with priority given to non-formal groups working for social development.

About the Work

As we are a small organisation, we can’t afford to hire all the assistance we need, so we are looking for volunteers with technical skills who can contribute some time. All work can be done remotely.

One volunteer is required to maintain and improve our website. At the minimum, they will need to prepare and place relevant images, making adjustments to other elements where necessary. The site is in WordPress, but intermediate knowledge of HTML, CSS and an image editor such as Photoshop, GIMP, Seashore or Paint.NET will be required. Their assistance will be needed on an ad-hoc, long-term basis, perhaps once every couple of months on average.

Ideally, we would like someone with more advanced skills in both the technical and design aspects of web development to greatly improve the appearance and functionality of the site. This could take a substantial amount of time at the outset, but the long-term support could be minimal or taken over by another volunteer.

We sometimes also need people with skills in other areas, including:

Page layout (in Adobe InDesign)
Illustration (esp. cartoons)
Graphic design (e.g. designing book covers)
Editing and proofreading (to a professional standard)
Expertise in social science, science, political philosophy, ELT, adult pedagogy and other subjects

If you are interested in volunteering with us, please send your CV and links to some samples of you work to educasiamyanmar@gmail.com with the code WEB-IDE in the subject field.

Volunteer to Teach in Myanmar! No program fee

Teach for Myanmar

Teach for Myanmar (TFM) provides a unique experience to be immersed in Myanmar supporting community-minded students. We match motivated volunteers with community organizations focused on education in Myanmar. Our volunteer teachers fill the vital role of sharing knowledge and skills to help young adult students reach their goals related to community development.

Our volunteers teach a range of classes, mostly Pre-Intermediate English classes focused on academic, listening and speaking classes. Other classes include Social Sciences, Environmental studies, and workshops in areas including art, dance, public speaking, research, grant writing, etc. Teachers are encouraged to share their interests and talents with prior approval. Our teachers spend 3 hours/ day up to 20 hours/ week in the classrooms.

Volunteers will be able to consult with the program staff in Yangon about logistical, social or academic issues that may arise. In addition to teaching and logistical support, volunteers receive some financial support to offset their expenses during their placement and support arranging an appropriate visa.

Volunteering with TFM requires pragmatism, patience, independence, initiative and a genuine respect for the host people and their culture.

Ideal candidates:

  • Speak English with native-fluency
  • Can commit for 10 weeks – 12 months, with some exceptions
  • Are flexible and hard working people with experience living in developing counties
  • Have teaching experience or strong academic backgrounds
  • Are aware and culturally sensitive to Myanmar’s traditions and ways of life
