“Asociación Ak’ Tenamit is a non-profit Mayan run organization working to reduce poverty in the rain forests of eastern Guatemala.”
I visited Ak’ Temamit a number of years ago. It is located on the Rio Dulce in Guatemala. The orgainization is very impressive. I had hoped to volunteer as a doctor but unfortunately my plans changed and I was unable to. I’d really like to go back one day.
“Ak’ Tenamit counts on international professional volunteers to help accomplish its mission. The number of volunteers working at the project varies from time to time, but a reasonable estimate is 10-15 volunteers involved at various levels. As a medical volunteer, Ak’ Tenamit prefers a minimum commitment of three months, although shorter assignments can be possible depending on the specialization of the volunteer and the current need for medical staff. The Clinic needs doctors, nurses, midwives and dentists. We also accept senior medical students.”
